The Counselling, English, and admin departments came together to bring in a mental health theatre performance for all grade 8s and 9s today. The 45 minute, one person show, follows the path of a student about 15 years ago as she dealt with anxiety, depression, a brief battle with self-harm, and looking for support. All of the students were encouraged by myself and the grade nine counsellor (Ms. McGilvary) to connect if they could use any support or knew of someone else dealing with mental health issues.
Some of the teachers will be doing follow up with their classes from this booklet that the presenting company (Green Thumb) created. It's quite comprehensive and meets the kids from many different elements.

Additionally, I encourage any and all of you to have open and honest conversations with your children about mental health awareness, mental health support, and accessing services.
