It's that time of year again... Course selection time! And while it has come a bit earlier - at the districts request, we now do it in February - it's time to reflect on where students are at and where they want to go. These choices will of course have a big impact on future possibilities. So here's what you should know: 1. I'll be going to English classes starting right after the Family Day weekend. Please note I do ELL & LINKS students individually. 2. The portal for students and families to make decisions is already open: www.myeducation.gov.bc.ca/aspen/logon.do Any issues with logging in should go to Mr. Jeff Spence ([email protected]), who can reset any student account. 3. I've got everything students and families will need under the "Course Planning" section of mrvan.org. But here are the highlights... Van's Course Planning PPT - This is what I'll be going through with the kids when I visit the English classes. Great for coming back if you missed something or to share with families. Course Planning Sheet - This is the yellow sheet I give out each year that kids put their course requests down on. You can download another if you lose the first one. Not that this has ever happened... ;) Grade 11 Courses Sheet - This is the list of all coruses at the grade 11 level our kids can take. It also shows some grade 12 courses that are also available to anyone with just grade 11 pre-requisites. Course Guide 19/20 - This is where you get all the great extra information about what each course is about. Great for helping students decide between two classes or when they aren't sure what something is. Grad Requirements - This lays out all of the requirements on the relatively new 2018 grad program. It's explained by the PPT above. Math Requirements - It's a great one-pager that shows the current (and remember these things change) Math requirements for post-secondary. It's really helpful because Math tends to be the "gate keeper" course for kids getting in to post-secondary. And if you're curious when I'm coming to the English classes... here you go! 1-1 Mueller – Class visit on Wednesday, Feb 20th (second half) & Library on Tuesday, Feb 26th (second half) 1-2 Miller – Class visit on Wednesday, Feb 20th (first half) & Library on Tuesday, Feb 26th (first half) 1-3 Beaucock – Class visit on Wednesday, Feb 20th (first half) & Library on Tuesday, Feb 26th (first half 1-3 Martelli (Flex) – Class visit on Wednesday, Feb 20th (second half) & Library on Tuesday, Feb 26th (second half) 1-4 Miller – Class visit on Friday, Feb 22nd (first half) & Library on Thursday, Feb 28th (first half)2-1 2-1 Beaucock (Summit) – Class visit on Tuesday, Feb 19th (first half) & Library on Monday, Feb 25th (first half) 2-1 Miller (ELL Transitional) – Class visit on Thursday, Feb 21st (first half) & Library on Wednesday, Feb 27th (first half) 2-1 McKeen – Class visit on Thursday, Feb 21st (second half) & Library on Wednesday, Feb 27th (second half) 2-2 Clark – Class visit on Tuesday, Feb 19th (first half) & Library on Monday, Feb 25th (first half) 2-3 Clark – Class visit on Thursday, Feb 25th (first half) & Library on Wednesday, Feb 27th (first half) 2-3 Mueller – Class visit on Thursday, Feb 21st (second half) & Library on Wednesday, Feb 27th (second half) 2-4 Derreth – Class visit on Thursday, Feb 21st (first half) & Library on Wednesday, Feb 27th (first half) And remember...
