On November 9th we'll be having our Parent-Teacher interviews. These are brief conversations (5 minutes), but an valuable opportunity to connect with you child's teachers. I've attached the school's document for how to sign up for the interviews and pick your times.

The Counselling, English, and admin departments came together to bring in a mental health theatre performance for all grade 8s and 9s today. The 45 minute, one person show, follows the path of a student about 15 years ago as she dealt with anxiety, depression, a brief battle with self-harm, and looking for support. All of the students were encouraged by myself and the grade nine counsellor (Ms. McGilvary) to connect if they could use any support or knew of someone else dealing with mental health issues.
Some of the teachers will be doing follow up with their classes from this booklet that the presenting company (Green Thumb) created. It's quite comprehensive and meets the kids from many different elements. You can check it out here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwGMR8ePOG5pb1pFSmdfV3hXeDg/view Additionally, I encourage any and all of you to have open and honest conversations with your children about mental health awareness, mental health support, and accessing services. One in five of us need mental health support at least once in our lives. I'm always here to support families in these conversations as well as students. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me. Thanks, Nick. I've been remissed in sharing some of the activities that we've been up to at Van Tech. Grade 8 welcome night, the French Immersion potluck, and our grade assembly. This time I won't miss an opportunity to share a moment. Wednesday to Friday the grade 8 FLEX Humanities students all came together. This VT program runs in grade 8, 9, and 10. The camp is run at the tranquil Loon Lake North-East of Port Coquitlam, as an opportunity to bring the FLEX students together as a family. Mr. Martelli, joined by myself and other great staff took oversight while previous FLEX students, now in grade 11 and 12, ran the camp. Despite some questionable weather, spirits never dampened with the weather, and the students rose to each individual challenge.
