Grade 8, 9, and 10 are perfect years for doing education around health with our students. For one, they are the years where we don't focus on post-secondary as much. Secondly, they are great years for me to really get to know the kids (especially this year - Grade 8). Finally, they are the three years of mandatory Physical Health Education classes, so it's perfect for me to go in and work with the kids.
I thought it might be valuable to give an overview of what it looks like and you can ask any questions if you have any. The big three topics are mental health, healthy relationships, and positive decision making around drugs and alcohol. I carry versions of these through each of Grade 8, 9, and 10. This video should help give a bit more detail!
Mr Van - Mental Health, understanding the brain, self care, and a letter to my Grade 12 self
Mr Van - Positive decision making around substances.
Mr Van - Health Relationships - a precursor to sexual health
Blush - Healthy Relationships Nov. 8th - 12th
Crime stoppers - Dec.10th - Dec. 13th
